The fearsome warrior manifestation dispelling darkness and restoring balance.
Sati, the first consort of Shiva, attended the famous Daksha Yaga, ie a Vaidik Yajna organized by her father, the famous King Daksha, uninvited and burned herself up using her yogic powers when she was disgraced by her father in front of all others who were present at the Yajnashala. Furious Shiva pulled out some of his Jeda or matted hair and lashed it on the ground and then came Veerabhadra from it. Veerabhadra was directed towards Daksha and he went through the Yagashala of Daksha like a tornado, destroying everything. He even challenged gods like Indra and Yama. In his distress, Daksha sought help from his mighty Upasanamoorthy, Lord Vishnu. Witnessing Daksha's humiliation, Lord Vishnu immediately mounted his Garuda, armed with a conch, Sudarshan chakra, bow, and arrows, and confronted Virabhadra.
In between the fierce battle, Lord Vishnu unleashed his most potent weapon, the Sudarshan chakra, against Virabhadra. which could only be stopped with the permission of Lord Vishnu.
Suddenly, the heavenly voice of Lord Shiva was heard from Kailash, which requested lord Vishnu to stop the battle as it was inappropriate for the supreme Lord to protect a sinner like Daksha. Lord Vishnu agreed and withdrew the Sudarshan chakra, allowing Virabhadra to fulfill his mission.
In front of everyone, Virabhadra executed Daksha. Nervous Brahma went to Shiva and requested to stop the bloodshed and show mercy on Daksha. Thus Shiva arrived at the yaagashala and spoke with Virabhadra, and Daksha was later revived using a goat's head.
