Mahavishnu

The divine protector, orchestrating cosmic harmony with boundless grace

The second one in the Trinity called Trimoorty, Vishnu takes care of the conservation part of the universe. Vaishnavism is spun around devotion to Mahavishnu, who is depicted as lying on the coils of the great serpent Ananta in the Milky Ocean. Mahavishnu is considered the prime Devatha in Vaishnavism just like Shiva in Shaivism. The Bhakti movement in the Bharathavarsha was developed with Mahavishnu as the central point. The Bhagavatha Maha Purana is all about Mahavishnu who incarnated as Krishna. The Bhagavad Gita a highly regarded Hindu Text which propagates Adwaita Vedanta is portrayed as given to Arjuna by Krishna at the outset of the Kurukshetra war. There are said to be ten incarnations of Mahavishnu of which nine have come and one is yet to come. All these incarnations are worshiped in some Mahavishnu temples.

Here in Chowara Devi temple, Mahavishnu is enshrined with two consorts Sreedevi and Bhudevi. Both are manifestations of Lakshmi. Bhudevi, one of the divine consorts of Lord Vishnu, embodies the material world and energy. Honored as the Mother Earth and the goddess of fertility, she represents all the sustaining and nourishing aspects of existence. Bhudevi is connected to the physical realm, emphasizing her role in laying the foundations for life and growth.

Sridevi, the other consort of Lord Vishnu mentioned in the same breath, represents the spiritual dimension. As a manifestation of Lakshmi, she embodies the qualities of grace, beauty, and auspiciousness. Sridevi symbolizes the divine aspects of the spiritual realm.

Together, Bhudevi and Sridevi look after the cosmic order's peaceful balance, with Bhudevi taking care of the material world and Sridevi representing the spiritual realm. Their presence next to Lord Vishnu symbolizes the overall maintenance and protection of both the universe's material and spiritual aspects.
Worshipping Bhudevi, Sridevi and Mahavishnu together in Hinduism is believed to bring spiritual fulfillment, material prosperity, harmonious relationships, protection, agricultural fertility, obstacle removal, righteousness, and the pursuit of salvation.
