The serene luminary, bestowing tranquility and blessings upon devotees.
Chandra, also known as the Moon, is the second among the Navagrahas, ruling the zodiac sign Cancer and symbolizes the divine feminine creative energy, with Goddess Parvati as its presiding deity. Chandra has feminine traits and in Astrology Chandra is considered the Queen whereas the Sun is the King.
Chandra is the son of the Sage Atri and is called Oushadheesa or the Lord of Herbs. There is a story that says the Chandra came from the Milky Ocean when Devas and Asuras churned it up for Amrit. He married Daksha's 27 daughters, and later, all the stars were named after these women.
The sacred text, Chandra Ashtottara Shatanamavali, consists of 100 names for Lord Chandra, praising him for purifying sins, relieving ancestral afflictions, and granting wishes. Chandra is considered cold and soft and one who does not have an enemy in the Rashi chakra, unlike all other planets. Worshiping him on Mondays is believed to alleviate sorrow and bolster mental and emotional strength, as he adorns Lord Shiva's head.
